Select Program – Driver Ed in a Box® at home with parent

Student DriverChoose the Texas Department of Public Safety approved Driver Ed in a Box® course.

The course consists of 35 classroom hours and 50 hours behind-the-wheel training for the student. The Certificate of Completion for the driver license is issued by Driver Ed in a Box® upon course completion.

Registration requirements:

Registration form DL-92 is completed by the parent and sent to the Texas DPS – this registers the parent and the student with Texas as doing a parent-taught course.

Course process:

  • The student proceeds through the course materials at his or her own pace at home with parental guidance as needed.
  • The permit is obtained after the student completes Section I (the first 6 hours) of class.
    The parent teaches the student the in-vehicle phase using the tools in Driver Ed in a Box. Everything is there to do a complete job, with lots of support so you are comfortable being the teacher.
