Elite Program – Driver Ed in a Box® supplemented with professional in-vehicle instruction

Driver with InstructorChoose the Texas Department of Public Safety approved Driver Ed in a Box® course for the classroom with 3 hours professional instruction in-vehicle included.
(You may purchase additional hours if needed.)

The course consists of 35 classroom hours and 50 hours behind-the-wheel training for the student. Also included are 3 hours with a licensed, certified trainer. The Certificate of Completion for the driver license is issued by Driver Ed in a Box® upon course completion.

The difference is that with this program you use a Texas Education Agency licensed Professional Driver Training Specialist.

Registration requirements:  register form DL-92 is completed by the parent and sent to the Texas DPS – this registers the parent and the student as doing a parent-taught course.

Course process:

  • The student proceeds through the course materials at his or her own pace at home with parental guidance as needed.
  • The permit is obtained after the student completes Section I (the first 6 hours) of class.
  • Schedule the first lesson with the certified instructor in the Parking Lot. The parent observes the instruction, and continues to teach the student sing the tools in Driver Ed in a Box. Everything is there to do a complete job, with lots of support so you are comfortable being an associate teacher.
  • When you and your student feel prepared to move into light traffic, schedule your second lesson with the certified instructor. The parent observed the transition to the more complicated driving environment, to become comfortable training in more traffic. The parent then continues the training process with the student.
  • The third hour with the certified instructor is usually scheduled for freeway driving or the final road test to make certain the student is actually ready to drive alone.

Of course additional lessons with the certified instructor can be scheduled if you feel you need more help. You pay only for the lessons you schedule, as you take them. Minimum number of behind-the-wheel hours for this program is three (3) hours.
