Welcome to Driver Ed in a Box®

HEP Bookstore, L.L.C. is pleased to announce the opening of its new Driver Ed in a Box Store.  HEP Bookstore has sold Driver Ed in a Box® for many years and is excited to take over the retail store that used to be located in the Katy Mills Mall.  Located next door to HEP Bookstore, the Driver Ed in a Box Store will sell Driver Ed in a Box®, a parent taught driver education course and will also offer professional driving instruction by a Texas Education Agency certified instructor.  At this time, Karen Freeman is completing the certification requirements to be the T.E.A. approved driving instructor.  She will begin offering driving lessons in late summer or early fall.  Classes will be taught at the Driver Ed in a Box Store location.  HEP Bookstore will also continue to sell Driver Ed in a Box® and will often be open longer hours than the Driver Ed in a Box Store. 

Driver Ed in a Box, L.L.C. was started by Patrick L. Barrett, a nationally known expert in training for collision-free driving.  Patrick’s credentials include many years of experience in the Driving Industry, Teacher Certification, Licensed Driving Instructor, Driving School owner, and author.  Patrick has been a national leader in the driving industry including serving as President of North American Professional Driver Education Association (NAPDEA) for eight years. 

He developed Driver Ed in a Box®when his son wanted to get his driver’s license.  After ordering the state curriculum, Pat was surprised at how poorly it was written.  He was glad he already knew what he was supposed to do! 

Pat believed there were other parents who wanted more than just to get a driver’s license.  They wanted their teens to become safe drivers. If all a family wanted for their teen was a driver’s license, all they had to do was fill out the DPS forms and say they did the work.  If a family wanted to produce a safer driver, they needed three things:

1. Knowledge of what collision-free drivers do to stay collision-free.
2. Simple, clear, easy-to-follow, integrated format.
3. Tools to convey this knowledge to a beginner.

There was nothing available adequate to the task.  That’s why Pat created the Driver Ed in a Box® kit.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Driver Ed in a Box Store is to provide the highest quality driver education materials and professional driving instruction available. 

About Joanne E. Juren - Owner

Joanne Juren has over thirty-six years experience as an educator, with experience as both a teacher and administrator in public schools and college, and sixteen years as a home educator. Mrs. Juren has a B.A. in English/History Teacher Education, a M.Ed. in Educational Administration, and a Texas Professional Mid-Management Certificate. She is the founder and National Executive Director of Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society, and owner of the HEP Bookstore, Home Education Partnership of Texas, Inc., and Driver Ed in a Box Store. She was the first winner of the "Home School Best Pioneer" Award by the Calvert School in 2002 and has been nominated many times as a member of "Who's Who of American High School Teachers."  She is a popular speaker and has appeared on national television as an advocate of homeschooling.
